Mary Berman's 2022 Awards Eligibility
Short stories about systemic violence, anxiety, and climate change.
Hello, friends!
I published three short stories in 2022. They’re all eligible for the Nebula, the Hugo, and the Locus, and the first two are also eligible for the Stoker. If you’re nominating for any of these awards, I would be honored if you considered adding them to your ballot!
“Filtration Systems,” 4,300 words, in Underland Arcana. This story is about middle-school girls, systemic violence, and forcing yourself to move through the world even when you don’t want to. I have a particular soft spot for this one, because I submitted it FIFTY-SEVEN TIMES before it got picked up.
It’s also been added to the Nebulas Reading List! If you’re a member of SFWA and you liked this story, please consider upvoting it!
“Human Body as Compendium,” 675 words, in PseudoPod, about anxiety and also human organs.
“Cassandra Takes the Plunge,” 4,800 words, in Shoreline of Infinity, about mermaids, climate anxiety, pervasive technology, and self-isolation. This one is my own favorite and the closest to my heart, but it is also behind a paywall. If you want to read it, please email me; I would be thrilled to send it to you.
UPDATED TO ADD: This story was recommended in Nerds of a Feather’s Hugo Awards Recommended Reading!
